چکیده

A sporadic Japanese case of myotonia congenita with painful muscle cramps is reported. Electromyographic examinations disclosed myotonic discharge with dive bomber sounds at insertion, and high-amplitude, high-frequency motor unit potentials during the muscle cramps. Biopsied muscle specimens and EMGfindings showednon-specific mild myopathic changes. There was no abnormal expansion of CTGrepeat within the myotonic dystrophy gene. This patient's disorder closely resembles Becker's myotonia congenita Type II though the family history of was non contributory. (Internal Medicine 35: 507-511, 1996)

The Overlap between Fibromyalgia Syndrome and Myotonia Congenita

BACKGROUND Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is a complex disorder characterized by chronic widespread pain (CWP), multiple areas of tenderness, sleep disturbance, fatigue, and mood or cognitive dysfunction. Myotonia congenita (MC) is an inherited myopathic disorder that is caused by mutations in the gene encoding the skeletal muscle chloride channel, which can infrequently manifest as generalized mu...

A Novel Missense Mutation in CLCN1 Gene in a Family with Autosomal Recessive Congenital Myotonia

Congenital recessive myotonia is a rare genetic disorder caused by mutations in CLCN1, which codes for the main skeletal muscle chloride channel ClC-1. More than 120 mutations have been found in this gene. The main feature of this disorder is muscle membrane hyperexcitability. Here, we report a 59-year male patient suffering from congenital myotonia. He had transient generalized myotonia, which...

Painful cramps and giant myotonic discharges in a family with the Nav1.4-G1306A mutation.

INTRODUCTION Two previously reported Norwegian patients with painful muscle cramps and giant myotonic discharges were genotyped and compared with those of members of 21 families harboring the same mutation. METHODS Using primers specific for SCN4A and CLCN1, the DNA of the Norwegian family members was amplified and bidirectionally sequenced. Clinical and neurophysiological features of other f...

Novel Mutations in the CLCN1 Gene of Myotonia Congenita: 2 Case Reports

INTRODUCTION Myotonia Congenita is an inherited myotonia that is due to a mutation in the skeletal muscle chloride channel CLCN1. These mutations lead to reduced sarcolemmal chloride conductance, causing delayed muscle relaxation that is evident as clinical and electrical myotonia. METHODS We report the clinical presentations of two individuals with Myotonia Congenita (MC). RESULTS Patient ...
